Introduction: Hello, my name is Rhea DeBlanc and I am a first year here at SDSU. I will be majoring in music education here, my main instrument is alto saxophone and I have been playing for around 9 years. I also enjoy things like food and listening to music.
Some of my reading practices include going back re reading text that i just previously read. I believe that this gives me a deeper understanding of the passage and allows me to really internalize the information given in the text. Doing this also can give me an insight as to what the author wanted the audience to think and feel from the passage. Overall going back and re reading texts have given me a deeper understanding on different texts and passages. Here is a document that shows the importance of reading attentively. https://heinonline.org/HOL/Page?handle=hein.journals/yglwyr18&div=36&g_sent=1&casa_token=&collection=journals
To go along with this I like to go back and read things that I have written in their entirety. Doing this gives me a good idea as to what my writing sounds like as well as putting me into the shoes of the reader. Seeing the text from the readers perspective gives me a good idea of what emotions and thoughts that my writing provokes.
The way that I would describe my reading and writing is attentive. I typically try to pay attention to how my writing sounds, as well as paying attention to what the author was going for with the passage he is writing. By practicing these strategies it gives me a more comprehensive idea of the text I am either reading or writing and overall allows me to process the information in a more efficient and observant manner.
One thing that I am really hoping to learn and take away from this course is the ability to make my writing flow better. I feel that a lot of the time when I am writing it seems like I am jumping from one point to the next without really being able to fully connect the points that I am trying to make. Along with that I hope that this class is able to enlarge my vocabulary and give many many different wording options when it comes to making points in writings. Here is a document detailing writing flow and strategies to make the flow more natural. https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/flow/
Hobbies and interests:
My favorite hobby/activity to do is typically driving around and listening to music, I do this both to relax and to get to know the area around me better. The way that this ties into writing is that it gives me time to think and formulate points in my head that I could later write down and turn into a meaningful text.

One show I really enjoy watching is Family guy, I enjoy this show because its very down to earth and it does not take a lot of attention to understand the plot. The writing for this show also reflects that, for example its very rare to see jokes and topics that you really have to think about to understand. They typically rely on puns or other very straightforward jokes to be entertaining, and because of this I feel that the writers know what they are doing and are intentionally keeping the show lighthearted and shallow.
Some of my favorite things to talk about with either my friends or family would be current events such as what’s going on in the news or even local news about my hometown or the surrounding areas. By talking about these things we can stay informed and knowledgeable about important topics. A lot of the local news that I consume could be found in my hometowns news paper http://www.heraldpublications.com/herald/el-segundo-herald/
Overall all of these hobbies and interests are able to keep me informed and engaged with current events and they keep me informed.
